Gillian Moore is an artist and interdisciplinary writer based in Silver City, New Mexico. Living itinerantly until recently among the landscapes of Australia, California, Oregon, Wyoming, and Illinois, she has long devoted herself to conversations with place in her creative work.
She received her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Visual Arts from the University of Chicago, her Master of Science in Conservation Ecology from the University of Michigan, and her Master of Fine Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting.
Since 2019, she has worked various roles managing wildland fire. Her work in the field has granted countless days and nights in the mountains and high deserts of North America. These labors have interwoven organically with her research to yield a continuously evolving dialogue on the natural world and understanding of our place within it.
Since moving to New Mexico in the spring of 2024, she has fallen completely in love with the vast and fragile lands of the Gila region. She spends any time she can (when not in the studio) exploring on foot with her husband and aged dog.
